Proton Therapy - Now Available to NJ/NY Metropolitan Area
Princeton Radiation Oncology (PRO) has teamed with ProCure and CentraState Healthcare System to open the first proton therapy center in the New Jersey/New York metropolitan area. The center is located in Somerset, New Jersey, about a half-hour's drive from midtown Manhattan. ProCure is a leader in the development of world-class proton therapy centers and CentraState Healthcare System is a non-profit community health organization serving the state of New Jersey.
Currently available at only a handful of centers in the United States, proton therapy is an alternative to X-ray radiation for treating cancer. Protons can be used to deliver radiation to a tumor while reducing the amount of radiation delivered to surrounding healthy tissue. Protons are effective in treating prostate cancer, brain tumors, head and neck cancers, lung cancer, sarcomas, tumors of the skull base and spine, and many pediatric cancers.
PRO physicians have collectively treated over 1500 patients with protons to date. They have over 33 years of experience using proton therapy, and more first hand proton therapy experience than anyone else in the NJ/NY metro area. They also actively participate in proton therapy clinical research.
