Hiral Patel Fontanilla, M.D. graduated with honors from Rutgers University before obtaining her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey where she was nominated to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She completed her residency in radiation oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Fontanilla has received numerous honors including the AMA Foundation Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship and Stanley S. Bergen, Jr., M.D. Medal of Excellence. Dr. Fontanilla was selected as a research scholar at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the National Institutes of Health where she completed a one year research fellowship. She was certified by the American Board of Radiology in radiation oncology in 2013.
Dr. Fontanilla has experience in the application of IMRT, brachytherapy, stereotactic radiation, and proton therapy. She has presented her research findings on gynecologic, breast, and pediatric cancer at national scientific meetings and has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles.
She is a member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology. She also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Thomas Jefferson University.
Dr. Fontanilla is fluent in Gujarati and Hindi.
